Death is the Teacher, I share the message.

Death is a mentor with boundless wisdom to share. Will you take heed and listen? Will you allow Death to change everything? Now is always a good time to tune-in to Death’s call.

From families and individuals to organizations, medical schools, and higher education, there is a conversation to be had about death and dying. By blending the practical with the sacred, I facilitate discussion and provide history and context to death care as we know it in the United States, and where death care is currently at, and its potential futures and outcomes.

While death is all around us; most of us actively avoid it, becoming ignorant to what the dying process is like. No one individual or family is to blame, however, it is a systemic disservice to all of us. By pushing death to the sterile margins of hospitals and funeral homes, by viewing death as a failure, we neglect the last great experience of our lives, while also neglecting our human obligation to die well.

Like our ancestors before us, we must bear witness to the death—others and our own—regardless of the amount of pain and discomfort it brings. We must show up for our loved ones in their final hours, it is the greatest act of love. We must prepare for our own day of dying by making peace with our choices the consequences, reckoning with our mortality, speaking openly and often about our thoughts and desires when shuffling off your mortal coil.
